We came across Malta Tiles while searching for a local company that specialised in replicating old townhouse tiles. We wanted to extend part of our townhouse and wanted the new tiles to complement the existing tiles not just in size but also in colour and style.
A number of tests were produced to achieve the exact colour and we are very happy with the outcome of our new floor. We were also very happy with Robert’s attitude both before and after the completion of the project. We would definitely recommend Malta tiles for any similar projects.
Living on Gozo it was difficult to source traditional floor tiles for a project in our farmhouse, the only option being, so we were, told was to import them.
During an Internet search, I came across Malta Tiles and sent an e-mail enquiry. I had an extremely prompt reply and arranged to go to Malta to meet Robert and look at samples. We found Robert very friendly, knowledgeable with an obvious passion for old buildings and traditional products. He showed us the workshop where each tile is made by hand but pointed out the original press no longer operates by steam! A large range of patterns was available and a choice was made. We had a particular layout of both patterned and plain tiles in mind and Robert instantly understood what was needed and said certain special tiles would need to be made. He said he would prepare a quotation which arrived promptly and we placed the order. The tiles were delivered when required and met all our expectations. Once laid Robert advised us on the best type of sealer and even went to the trouble of buying it for us and sending it over to Gozo with a family member. Excellent service and an excellent product!
This company is the supplier of Maltese tiles for our old house in the Three Cities.
We were impressed by the wide choice of traditional designs, some centuries old, that were available. Malta Tiles offered us changes to the designs we wanted and colours matched our needs. We were also able to watch tiles being handmade in their plant. A point to note is the thicker pattern layer which they use that gives many years of service to the product.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and best of all experts in the craft tile making by hand. They gave us invaluable advice on curing, storing and transporting the tiles, which have to be treated like “babies” when first made. They also gave guidance on laying the tiles and were able to propose skilled craftsmen to do this work.
Malta Tiles’ after-sales service is second to none. Nothing was too much trouble to make changes and resolve snags during the important work of setting tiles in place in our traditional house.
We have no hesitation in recommending Malta Tiles’ products and services.
